Utah Mountain Wedding

in Art Exhibits & Events, Art Studio, New Artwork .

Creating wedding illustrations with pets involved never gets old. I’m not sure who stole the show more of this Park City, Utah wedding, the furry friend, back drop, gorgeous couple, or that insane floral arch? Wow! It’s a toss up I suppose. Needless to say this must have been an amazing day for the happy couple and their guests!..

Spirit Animal Series has Begun

in Art Studio, New Artwork .

It's finally feeling like fall in Charleston, so that means time for a new oil painting series. I've just begun on what might be my most favorite series of paintings ever. I call it my "Spirit Animal" series. The idea came about when my husband, Derek, and I were discussing what we thought our spirit animals would be. Derek, being an avid windsurfer who's always chasing the wind and waves, decided up a pelican, who love to let the wind catch their wings as they glide just above the water. For me, it was a bit more difficult. I adore all cats, from the typical house cat to those roaming the jungle floor. However, I've also always been very attracted to wolves and even had a wolf calendar growing up. Eventually, I decided upon the fox. While they are in the same family as dogs, they’ve often been described as very cat-dog like, sharing traits of both species. After we had settled on our spirit animals, an image of a painting popped in my mind! I SHOULD PAINT THAT! And so I got to planning. Soon the piece really took hold in my minds eye as I began adding in other sentimental items to the piece. A little brown mouse in honor of my beloved pet mouse I had as a kid, some hydrangeas, one of the main flowers at my wedding reception, and daffodils as tribute to my grandmother. Those are just a few of the significant details that will be in the painting. Of course it’s still in the works now, but I’ve already begun to think about the other animals that should be in the series. Perhaps some Amazonian creatures in honor of the current atrocities happening down in South America?! Who knows. We’ll see what other friends begin to speak to my soul!..

Happy New Year 2019!

in Art Studio .

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe it’s 2019?! I suppose I say this every new year. I can’t believe it's the year *blank*. But seriously, I can’t. 2018 was quite a year. Like all past years, it had its ups and downs but overall it was a great year! However, the feeling I have about 2019 is unlike any other. This is going to be a great year! I can feel the energy all around me! Have you written out your goals and aspirations? When they're down on paper it makes them that much more real and maybe even attainable. One of my goals this year is to be fearless! I will not let doubt stand in the way of my dreams. I will not let negative mind talk bring me down! There is no better time than the present so let's do this! Who's with me!? Fashion illustrator and oil painter bex Rebecca Hinson in her Charleston art studio. <3 xox    ..

New Art Studio Found!

in Art Studio .

As some of you may know 193 King, the building where I had my studio, was sold a few months back. We knew things were going to change drastically once the sale was closed so we started searching for a new space. The search started out super frustrating; there seemed to be nothing out there the right size and/or price. Everything around town was either for a massive company with thousands of square footage or just WAY overpriced (not surprising for Charleston). Last week our search came to an end when we found a new studio just two blocks away! Makes for pretty easy moving, eh? We started the exciting move bright and early this morning. Trying to take advantage of the super cool weather and before King Street really got moving, we brought most of the furniture and essentials over. Today was our first official day in the new space and let me tell you...this place has such amazing light! Who knew one could appreciate a window to the outside world so much! The new studio in at 218 King Street, above Nine West shoes and is on the third floor. Feel free to pop in and check it out! ..
