Custom Puppy Portrait

in New Artwork .

Dog gone it, I love animals! I'll scream it on the rooftops! My entire life I've been an animal lover. Dogs, cats, horses, pigs, chickens, and yes, even the commonly feared snake. I really do adore them all. So naturally painting animals is one of my passions and specialities. Some of my favorite projects have been capturing someones furry (or scaly. I said I like snakes) companion. This little nugget is Ozzie the Aussie doodle. Ozzie likes long walks at sunset, belly rubs, and making new friends. Does your furry friend need they own portrait as well? Commission me to paint them as a whimsical watercolor illustration or a refined oil painting!..

My Best Friends Wedding

in New Artwork, Art Exhibits & Events .

Working on wedding art is one of my favorites! The client (bride) usually knows exactly what she wants and I just help bring it to life. When my best friend and roommate for almost 6 years, Emily, got engaged, I was thrilled (and hoping) she wanted me to do the art! Perhaps you already guessed it, it's a beach wedding. Even more exciting is the reception is at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. How cool is that!? We started with the wedding logo that ties in the two main colors, firecracker coral and a light green. The wedding itself will take place in Beaufort, not far from Pine Knolls, in a beautiful historic church. My husband and I are driving up Thursday am to start the wedding weekend early. I can't wait to begin celebrating Emily and Matt!!  The main logo with the bride and grooms initials. The wedding map includes all the important locations for the wedding weekend. ..

May Cover Art for Skirt Magazine

in New Artwork .

Happy May, the month that's all about moms! Naturally, the theme for this month's skirt! magazine is just that, motherhood. While I myself am not a mother, I am blessed to have an amazing mom of my own and 2 wonderful grandmothers. This illustration was inspired by one of my grandmothers, Granny, who just passed away in March on the first day of Spring. She lived a full and wonderful 92 years on this earth. I tried to incorporate a bit of her in this piece. The gladiolus in the background are from the immense gladiolus garden she grew and loved. She also had a large fruit and veggie garden where she nurtured everything from black-eyed peas to strawberries. Granny was an amazing cook and loved to share that with her family and friends as well as bringing meals to shut-ins. She loved animals and helped instill that deep affection in me. She'd often say "never throw away anything that one of God's creatures can eat", while leaving out scraps by the edge of the woods for forest friends (she lived out in the country). Dog treats were also always found in her car so she'd be prepared to feed any canines that crossed her path. Granny was everything a mother and grandmother should be, patient, kind, strong, selfless, and wise. She helped shape me into the person I am today and I can only hope of being a fraction of as nice of a human being as her. After also losing my extraordinary paternal grandmother, Mema, last year, I am now grandparent-less. It's a weird feeling. While we all know this time will surely come, it doesn't make the pain go away any more. I wish I could call both of them just to chat. I am thankful and iternally grateful to have known all my grandparents and also to have had both my grandmothers in my life into my 30's. What a treasure to have gotten to spend so much time with them. So give your mom and/or grandmother a call, a hug, or send them a nice note (or all 3!). Think of all the wonderful moms that have been in your life! Past and present. Happy Mother's Day to all! ..

Spring has Sprung

in New Artwork .

The first day of spring is here! I can't believe it. I thought this day would never come! I've had cabin fever since January. What can I say, I'm a warm weather girl so my tolerance for the cold is very limited. Some people view New Years as the time for hope and renewal, but for me it's springtime! This time of year creates the ultimate inspiration around every corner, the reawakening of the world around me. The motivation for this yellow dressed beauty came from the Elie Saab spring 2018 runway show. The collection included a lot of bright primary colors which I absolutely love. Could this look be any more cheerful?!..

On Island Time

in New Artwork .

Can we be on island time ALL the time? Living on the coast perhaps I already am and just don't know. Certainly the South in general is pretty close with our slower pace of life. Even if your life isn't exactly "slow", looking at a painting of a peaceful scene can evoke some of that tranquil emotion, right?  While I've been focusing more on my watercolor illustrations lately, I still take oil painting commissions if it feels right and I'm excited about it. These are a few that I was super excited about! Of course the settings being on Kiawah and Sullivan's Island made them that much more appealing. Sullivan's in particular being the beach I frequent most because it's only 5 miles away from my house! In the summer I couldn't tell you how much I'm there; it's my happy place! If you too want your happy place captured you can contact me or read more about the commission process.  ..
